“We aim to work together to improve access to leisure and cultural opportunities for local communities. To celebrate the heritage, diversity and environment that make Hyndburn a special place to live, work and visit”
Culture is shaped by, and reacts to the world around us. It is affected by the way we talk, where we live, our communities, our history and heritage, our faith and religious beliefs, our environment, our customs and the way we behave. In Hyndburn we have a broad provision of Culture and Leisure opportunities for people through our countryside, libraries, sports facilities, arts provision, events, built heritage, playgrounds, tourism services and parks. Many partners play a part in improving cultural and leisure services within the area and through the Community Strategy we aim to work together to improve access to leisure and cultural opportunities for all local communities.
We can make life better by taking part in different cultural and leisure activities helping to tackle issues such as crime, the environment and ill health, all of which affect the way we live. Culture and leisure aims can :
Improve our health and well-being through activities like taking a walk in a park, playing football or cricket, dancing, listening to a band or painting a picture.
Help reduce crime and disorder by diverting young people from nuisance activities, giving them another way of thinking, and the opportunity to be involved in something they can be proud of. It can also help build their confidence and lead to training and jobs either in the culture and leisure industry or because they feel better and more confident about themselves.
Improve the environment by making it look better and giving communities a sense of pride in their area.
Bring people together to celebrate special occasions and improve the environment where they live. It helps people talk to each other and begin to understand and know their neighbours.
Help improve the economy as a community who enjoy, have pride and help look after the environment can also help to attract visitors and businesses to the area.
Be fun and can help us learn throughout our lives, make new friends, and develop new skills.
