Please take a minute just to read through the Guidelines below. They have been created to make the whole Forums experience better for both you, the user, and for our team of moderators; if they are kept to, the moderators really won't need to step in at all!

The Discussion Forums are the part of the site where you can tell us what's on your mind. Just choose one of the forums and see what's going on - don't forget, if you want to post messages, you will need to be logged-in. If you haven't got an account then simply click on Register in the top right hand corner of the site.

Your postings will appear immediately on the site. In order to keep this the case, when posting to the Forums, please follow the common sense guidelines below:

  1. Do be civilized and considerate.
  2. Do try and express your thoughts carefully and clearly.
  3. Do be sure to read what the other person is actually saying and not what you think they may be saying.
  4. Do keep messages on-topic and post in the appropriate place.
  5. Do watch what you say - you're responsible for what you write, and remember that your message will be available for the whole world to read.
  6. Do remember: these Forums are NOT typical Forums - not only is this an online community, it's a geographical one too; you may well be talking to your neighbour!
  7. Do respect the Moderators' decisions - the Content Manager and Moderators reserve the right to edit, relocate and/or remove any message, at any time, for any reason. All editing decisions should be considered final.
  8. Do remember that the discussion forums are moderated by a group of people who have volunteered to put themselves in the position of making difficult judgement calls. Following these guidelines/rules makes their life easier, and everyone's experience visiting the site better. Please report any messages violating these rules to info@hyndburnlife.co.uk. If you don't agree with a decision, you may discuss it with the Portal Development Officer whose decision is final. The rules outlined on this page, above, will be used as moderation guidelines.
  9. Don't swear.
  10. Don't get personal; a good general rule: "criticise ideas, not people".
  11. Don't post personal/racial/ethnic/gender-based insults, slurs or offensive comments.
  12. Don't make posts that are inflammatory just to wind people up.
  13. Don't post when intoxicated! You'll find it harder to keep to the guidelines!
  14. Don't TYPE IN CAPITALS as this is considered to be SHOUTING!
  15. Don't post junk.
  16. Don't post useless off-topic stuff.
  17. Don't duplicate existing topics elsewhere.
  18. Don't post advertisements. If you are unsure whether or not a posting constitutes an advert, e-mail info@hyndburnlife.co.uk before posting.
  19. Don't post personal information about yourself or someone else (whether you know them or not!) - it's for your own safety. This includes contact details e.g. e-mail addresses, phone numbers, physical address details.
  20. Don't make libelous statements, or anything else that might violate someone's privacy.
  21. Don't repost the contents of private emails, letters, chat logs, or other correspondence on the forums unless you have the permissions of all the parties concerned.
  22. Don't threaten other users. Threats will not be tolerated and will result in a ban.

Further information on use of the website can be found in the Legal section of the site.
