Set in an eight and a half-acre site beside the redeveloped Leeds and Liverpool Canal, Wigan Pier offers a great value for money day out for all the family.

Experience life in Wigan in the year 1900 in The Way We Were museum and ride on the Waterbus on the canal. Experience the sights, sounds and smells of the World’s largest working mill steam engine. Experience the Twentieth Century in a day in Opie’s Museum of Memories.

Experience the deafening noise of the cotton spinning machines within the Machinery Hall which acts as a reminder of the difficult conditions endured by the employees of Trencherfield Mill. In stark contrast to the noise of the Machinery Hall is the eloquent working of the Trencherfield Mill Engine – the world’s largest original working steam engine.

How to get to Wigan Pier Wigan Pier is sign posted from all major road networks; follow the brown and white tourism signs. Car parks can be found on both sides of the site. Car parking is free of charge. For rail travellers Use Wigan North Western station.
