HyCen

Hyndburn has a thriving voluntary sector, with a huge number of organisations providing services for many different people.  Most of these organisations are run by volunteers who give their own time to help other people.  Many of these groups in the Hyndburn area are affiliated to the Hyndburn Community Empowered Network (HyCen), which provides help and support.

HyCen has provided this information about the voluntary sector in Hyndburn:

"The voluntary sector is the third pillar of society, equal in importance to the public and private sectors. It consists of non-profit organisations (of which many are registered charities) and many other volunteer groups that are non-incorporated. The voluntary sector employs people in communities across the borough and hundreds of local residents volunteer their time to a voluntary sector or community organisation.

The voluntary sector plays a vital leadership role in developing policies, programs and services that improve and enhance our society. It touches the lives of hundreds of people each day and influences virtually all aspects of our society from social justice, human rights, environment, health and faith, to arts and culture, sports and recreation.

Many organisations deliver services to and advocate on behalf of individuals and groups who are disadvantaged and marginalised, whose voices would otherwise have a difficult time being heard.

Voluntary sector organisations bring their knowledge, expertise, and compassion in working with communities to public policy debates and identify priorities to statutory agencies. A strong voluntary sector is vital to a healthy local economy."
