Cup draws

In the week when Hyndburn has been hit by the first snowfall of the winter, the borough’s local cricket followers received some cheer with the 2006 season cup draws throwing up some intruiging matches to look forward to next summer.

The Worsley Cup 1st Round draw produced one local derby with Enfield getting a plum draw against local rivals Church. It’s ten years since 
the clubs last met in this competition when Church came away with a 64 run victory in 1995. Rishton also have a great draw with Haslingden the visitors to Blackburn Road on Sunday 21st May 2006. There is also a ray of hope at Thorneyholme Road where Accrington, with only three wins since their last cup final appearance in 1989, have been paired with Burnley.

The full Worsley Cup draw is:
Todmorden v Bacup
Enfield v Church
Ramsbottom v Colne
Accrington v Burnley
Rishton v Haslingden
Lowerhouse v Rawtenstall
Byes: East Lancs and Nelson

Three of the local sides have home draws in the Inter League Challenge Trophy. Rishton take on Werneth who were well beaten last
season by Accrington. Enfield take on Royton at Dill Hall Lane and Church entertain Milnrow in a repeat of the corresponding Round in 2001.
Accrington break new ground with a trip to Norden. The two clubs have never met in a  competitive match before, but Accrington will be 
confident after reaching the last eight in the previous two seaons.

In the Ribblesdale League Baxenden have a tough draw in the 1st Round of the Ramsbottom Cup with holders Settle the visitors to Back Lane 
on Saturday 6th My 2006. Oswaldtwistle Immanuel travel to Station Road to play Whalley and Great Harwood have a bye.
