Market

Hyndburn has a good choice of shopping opportunities, from the modern Arndale Centre in Accrington, to mill shopping at Oswaldtwistle Mills.  There are also markets at Accrington and Great Harwood - there is plenty of choice for everyone!

The markets at Accrington were originally opened in 1868, and are housed in one of the finest buildings in the town.  Open throughout the year, the lively indoor and outdoor markets offer something for everyone.  No mater when you visit, you're bound to snap up a bargain!

During 2003, Accrington Victorian Markets received a major facelift as part of the redevelopment of the town centre.  The Victorian Makrets now boast 70 stalls, 11 outside kiosks, 7 shop kiosks and 92 pavillion stalls.

All of the market traders pride themselves on working together to provide the finest, freshest produce at affordable prices.

The Arndale Centre and Accrington's Broadway offer the shopper many High Street names such as Marks and Spencer and Woolworths.  So whether you're looking for some new clothes, a bargain from the market or just looking to browse, there will be something to tempt you locally!

You may wish to enjoy a shopping experience with a difference at Oswaldtwistle Mills.  Imagine an Aladdin's cave of fabrics, crafts, pottery, glass, ceramics and a garden centre all in the one place.  You can also explore a real sweet factory and for the younger visitor there's the newly built Bubbles play centre.

Be sure to pay a visit to the textile museum which takes you back 300 years to the early 1700s, and explore the mill grounds to experience an oasis of calm in the middle of town.  Follow the nature trail to discover a wildlife reserve with a pair of black swans, and 52 varieties of duck and geese.

There really is a surprise around every corner, and with two fully lisenced cafe / restaurants on site there's plenty of opportunity to have a well-earned rest and bite to eat.

Oswaldtwistle Mills is open seven days a week, Monday - Saturday 9am - 5pm (Thursdays until 8pm), and Sundays 11am - 5pm.  Admission is free.

You can find Oswaldtwistle Mills on Moscow Mill Street, Oswaldtwistle, BB5 3DE.  Telephone 01254 871025.  www.o-mills.co.uk
