Hyndburn hoping — it could be us!

Hyndburn Council, in partnership with four other Borough Councils in East Lancashire, is looking forward to June,  when they will discover  if they can move forward to the next stage in a bid for £25m of Lottery funding.

It is hoped that the bid will help to create a network of public meeting places at key strategic sites across East Lancashire.

In Hyndburn this will mean a significant opportunity to create two new  dynamic public open spaces at the Church Canal Gateway, Church, and Enfield Wharf, Clayton le Moors.  Hyndburn residents will take a major part in the design and development of these sites, with the potential for each location to become a major attraction, not only for those using the canal and visiting Hyndburn, but also as a meeting and social gathering place for local people.

The proposal, entitled CONNECT, has been developed based on the Livesey/Wilson report, Dreaming of Pennine Lancashire, and if successful will revitalise the image and perception of East Lancashire, stimulate pride of place and well being, and provide new opportunities for employment through the generation of new economic investment.

Councillor Peter Clarke, Portfolio Holder for Economy and Employment, says: “This exciting proposal represents a fantastic opportunity to create new public spaces for the people of Hyndburn.  Local people will be encouraged to get involved in the designs, and will  be an integral part of creating  public spaces,  for their own and future Hyndburn generations to enjoy.”
