Recycling in Hyndburn

Local residents are recycling a stunning 1 ¼ times the weight of  every man,  woman,  and child in Hyndburn each year. And by next  summer a massive 20,000 tonnes of materials will have been recycled since the household recycling scheme started in March 2003.

Here are a few interesting recycling facts:

PAPER - During October the 30,000,000th newspaper was recycled
GLASS - During October the 15,000,000th bottle was recycled
CANS - During October  the 20,000,000th can was recycled
PLASTIC BOTTLES - During October the 7,500,000th bottle was recycled and by February 2006 we should have recycled our 10,000,000th.

Cllr Ann Scaife, Portfolio Holder for Environmental issued said: "This is great news,  and,  as ever,  its down to the fantastic recycling efforts of our residents, who  have embraced the scheme and are recycling enthusiastically. Our groundbreaking Waste Watching for Schools scheme has inspired our schoolchildren to recycle, and they have then in turn inspired their families to recycle.”
