The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was founded in New York in the 19th century and has around 180,000 followers in the UK.  Worldwide there are 11 million believers, and it’s one of the world’s fastest growing religions.

The followers of the Church are known as Mormons, and their beliefs are centred on the life of Jesus Christ.  According to its followers, the Church of Jesus Christ is the church restored to its true form, as it was at the time of the Apostles.  Believers think that other Christian faiths have lost sight of the true meaning of Christ in the time since his death.

Mormons believe that God has a physical body.  The family unit is central to the beliefs and values of the Church.  Marriage can continue beyond earthly life if the individuals concerned are truly faithful to the teachings of Christ.

Mormons believe that it is possible for humans to become gods in the afterlife.  They endeavour to refrain from  homosexuality, abortion, sex before marriage, pornography, gambling, drugs, tobacco, alcohol, and caffeine.  Mormons donate one tenth of their income to the Church.
