Christianity is the world's biggest religion, with over a billion followers worldwide. In the UK, around thirty million people regard themselves as Christian, with around six million being active members of a church.

Christianity was founded by followers of Jesus Christ, a holy man who taught in the Holy Land (the Middle East) 2000 years ago.  Over the years, many different branches of Christianity have evolved, each with slightly different beliefs, but all retaining their belief in Jesus Christ.

The basis of all Christian faiths is a belief that Jesus Christ was the son of God, and that while he was fully human, he was sent to Earth to save humanity from its sins, that he died by crucifixion to do so, and that he later rose from the dead and ascended to Heaven.

Jesus Christ taught, essentially, a love of God and a love of one's neighbour, and this forms the basis for Christian morality.

Christians believe in one God, but also that their God has three aspects - the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit.

Christians believe that God created life and the Universe.

Christians worship in churches and chapels, and their spiritual leaders are called priests or ministers.

Christians strongly believe in an eternal spiritual life after physical death.

The Christian holy book is the Bible, which consists of the old and new testaments.  They believe that Jesus Christ was the Messiah prophesied in the old testament.

Specific articles of belief vary between sub-divisions of the faith.
