richard_from_church Richard is 26, he lives and works in Church.  He explained his thoughts on returning to education to Hyndburn Life:

"I started studying for a Masters degree in Social Science with the Open University in Spring 2004.  I left university five years ago and at the time I wanted to continue my studies but thought that it was more important to get out into the real world and earn some money!

I decided this year that I could both work and study by doing a part time course with the OU.  My degree is modular which means that I can decide how quickly I complete the course.  I have quite a wide and varied selection of courses to chose from - each with a points value - I need to complete enough courses within eight years to get 180 points to receive my masters degree.

It is quite difficult getting used to studying by yourself rather than with a group - you are given a study guide and some text books to work through but are also assigned a personal Tutor whom you can approach with any difficulties.  The course I am currently on is assessed by three marked essays spread throughout the course and a final exam in October.

I am really enjoying studying again and would recommend the Open University to anyone who has the time and the motivation to study at any level."
