Skipper hopes for rivals off day

ACCRINGTON Stanley have a Saturday off and captain Peter Cavanagh is praying they don't slip out of the play-off places.

The second placed Reds were set to travel to Canvey Island but the game has been switched to Tuesday 22 March because of Canvey's FA Trophy commitments.

It means the Reds have to sit and watch the other Conference results filter through on Saturday - and hope they don't drop too far down the league.

"It is hard but there is nothing we can do," said the Reds skipper."Everyone is becoming obsessed with teletext looking at scores, the table and  fixtures but we will just have to see what happens.

"But we can't worry about other teams, we have just to concentrate on ourselves and hope teams take points off each other and we can continue to win as many games as possible."

The Reds are unbeaten in seven games and have won four of their last six league games but just five points separates second placed Stanley from 11th placed Dagenham. They are next in action when they take on UniBond side Bamber Bridge on Monday in the semi-final of the LFA Marsden Trophy.

New signing, Welsh winger Gary Roberts, is still awaiting international clearance while Burnley wideman Matty O'Neill, signed on a month's loan, is currently injured.
