Rivals Stand in Reds Glory Path

ACCRINGTON Stanley face one of their biggest games in recent history when they take on Conference title rivals Hereford on Saturday at Edgar Street.

The Reds are 16 points clear of the second placed Bulls, although Graham Turner's side have a game in hand, and a win on Saturday would  go a huge way towards the Reds sealing a historic return to the  Football League almost 44 years to the day since they were forced to  resign from it.

Ex-Bull Andy Tretton is battling to be fit to face his former club but former Hereford striker David Brown is confident Stanley can  chalk up their 11th straight league win and equal the Conference record held by Dagenham and Hereford.

"We are on a roll and are going into every game with confidence and expecting to win," said Brown, who has seven goals this season.

"This season has gone well. I think we had a good run of six or seven home games on the bounce just before Christmas against teams that we should have beaten teams near the bottom of the league.

"We managed to win every game and we've just kicked on from there. We've worked really hard and the lads have managed to stay fit for more or less most of the season."

He admits Accrington have copied what Barnet did last season in getting the points on the board early on.

"Barnet got that far in front with points that by the time they played teams second, third or fourth in the league, those results were unlikely to stop them from getting promoted."

That's been something that we've tried to do, get our points on the board early doors. It looks good because we've got such a big gap on Hereford.

"But, even at 16 points, it's a massive ask for Hereford, but I know they will never give up."

John Coleman, with 10 games left, certainly knows there is a lot to play for.

"We can't afford to give anyone a sniff as they might pounce on it. We have just got to keep winning. We need six wins to make it mathematically safe and that is what we will be striving to do."

Coleman will be without suspended Leam Richardson but Robbie Williams returns from a two game ban.
