Reds on mission to make if five

ACCRINGTON Stanley visit one of their happy hunting grounds on Saturday  hoping to make it five wins on the bounce.

The Reds beat Dagenham 1-0 in their first season in the Conference at Victoria Stadium and last season, it was a 5-0 thumping courtesy of a Ged Brannan hat-trick.

And the third place side expect another victory there to carry on their bid for the top spot.

"Me and John (Coleman) always like going to Dagenham," said assistant Jimmy Bell. "It all stems back to our Ashton days when they knocked us out of the FA trophy in the final minute. It was heart-breaking so we always go there determined to do well and pick up the points.

"They have had a good start, they had a good draw with York on Tuesday, but we have won four on the bounce and want to make it five."

Winger Gary Roberts has been the in-form player with two goals in Stanley's last two wins and he is hoping to turn on the style away from home.

"I have done well at home this season but for some reason, and I don't know what it is, I haven;t been performing away from home. I have got some stick about it so I hope to change it this weekend."

Bell has been impressed with his left winger: "He is breathtaking in flashes and there is nothing better than him going foward at times but we have told Gary to concentrate more defensively as well and cut out all the tricks  and flicks and he has done that."

Stanley's goals have been coming from all over with David Brown currently topping the scoring charts with four, but Andy Mangan and Steve Jagielka have three each. Stanley's usual top scorer Paul Mullin is on two.

"Paul  is doing a great job without scoring," continued Bell. "Usually that is what happens when your scorers go through a lean patch, you find other people chip in. We have goals right across the team and you have got to be happy with that."

And the management have been impressed with recent signing Alan Navarro, who lists Liverpool, Crewe and Tranmere among his former clubs.

“Alan is a very strong player, I liken him to Andy Gouck but with more legs. He will be a great signing for us.," added Bell.

Stanley will be without Benin captain Romuald Boco on Saturday as he is on international duty in Dubai for a friendly ahead of a World Cup qualifier on October 9.

And left back Leam Richardson is a doubt after picking up a couple of  strains in the 3-2 win over Aldershot on Tuesday night.
