Players sit through a video nasty Saturday’s defeat at Carlisle sadly brought our 10-game unbeaten run to an end and left us once again needing to pick up three points in our next match to ensure that we stay well in the fight for a play off place. Of course that next match happens to be at the Interlink Express Stadium this Saturday against our local rivals Morecambe, who will be desperate to avenge two home defeats at our hands already this season, one in the league at the start of the campaign and the other in the Lancashire FA Marsden Trophy last month. Team spirit is still high despite the defeat. The post mortem was held on Monday morning with the squad sitting through the full 90 minute video at the training ground. As ever mistakes were highlighted and lessons will hopefully have been learnt, however it is then time to move on and look ahead to the next fixture. Dwelling on defeats only lowers morale and damages the spirit in the dressing rooms, what is important is that we return ready for the next match stronger than before. It was disappointing that the transfer of David Brown was held up at the end of last week. Had everything gone through ahead of Saturday’s trip to Carlisle he would have at least made it on to the bench, and then of course we would have had a replacement forward for Lee McEvilly after he picked up an injury in the opening minutes. As it was we were forced to play players out of position, which made a difficult task of taking something from the game all the more hard work. We are now confident that David will be available to play on Saturday afternoon, and there was good news this Monday with the announcement from the club’s medical team that Lee McEvilly could also be fully recovered in time for the Morecambe match. A big crowd is expected on Saturday afternoon. There will certainly be plenty of travelling support for the Shrimps, and we are hoping that the people of Accrington will turn out in force to cheer us on as we look to keep up the chase for that all important play off position! Matches between the two sides are never dull, with plenty of incident throughout, I am sure Saturday will be no different! |
