Stanley end with stalemate

HEREFORD 0 ACCRINGTON STANLEY 0

ACCRINGTON Stanley couldn't finish the season on a high as they scraped a goalless draw at play-off certainties Hereford.

The Reds wanted to go better than the 10th place they finished last  season but they ended up equalling it after failing to get past the  promotion-chasing Bulls.

Stanley were restricted to long range efforts with former Hereford  striker David Brown trying his luck from long range as did Lee McEvilly but both were off-target. But Hereford had the best chances just after the interval when  makeshift left back Rory Prendergast did well to clear a Craig Stanley goalbound shot off the line and  Danny Alcock saving a point blank Andy Tretton header.

Neither side could break the deadlock though and it petered out  with the teams sharing the spoils.

"It wasn't a classic," said boss John Coleman. "It was more like a  pre-season friendly although there some good performances from Jonathan Smith, Danny Alcock and Mike Flynn.

"The defence kept a clean sheet so they got a little bit of pride  back."

Coleman is now going to sort out his retained list and work on  getting players in for next season.

"I do think we have improved from last year and now we have to take it a step further. We have the basis of a good squad here to  challenge for promotion next year."
