Stanley march on

Exeter 1
Stanley 3

Stanley moved 11 points clear at the top of the Conference with a resounding 3-1 win against closest challengers Exeter City.

Gary Roberts was Stanley’s hero against the Grecians with a goal in either half which allowed John Coleman’s men to strengthen their grip on top spot.

His opener was a peach. A superb left foot free gave Exeter keeper Paul Jones no chance and set Stanley on the way to victory.

Roberts was involved again in the second in the 53rd minute when he headed the ball across goal for Benin international Romuald Boco score.

Roberts effectively made the game safe wit Stanley third in the 68th minute.

The home fans were given a late lift when Jake Edwards grabbed a consolation. But although Exeter pressured the Stanley goal they couldn’t reduce the deficit further.

Exeter were also disappointed not to win a first half penalty for handball against that man Roberts. But it was the winger’s night. No-one could deny Stanley or Roberts.
