Title is one step closer

YORK CITY 2 ACCRINGTON STANLEY 4

Accrington Stanley took another giant stride towards the Conference title - thanks to a spirited come from behind victory at York City.

With nearest challengers Hereford going down to a surprise defeat, Stanley's victory was enough to extend their lead to 14 points at the top of the Conference table.

Though sweet this wasn't the stroll the scoreline may suggest. For Stanley went in at the interval losing 2-1 to a  York City side who have play-off ambitions of their own.

Clayton Donaldson and top scorer Andy Bishop had notched for York, with Paul Mullin replying for the Reds.

But after a few choice words from manager John Coleman at the break  Stanley came out a different side.

They turned in one of their best displays of the season - a performance triggered by a David Brown penalty kick two minutes after the restart - and roared on by the Reds 400-strong traveling supporters.

With Stanley rampant Mullin added his second, and Stanley's third on 67 minutes and three minutes later Ian Craney made the points safe after turning in the area to crack home goal number four.

There was even time for keeper Rob Elliot to shine. He saved a Bishop spot kick given away by Phil Edwards to ensure there were no last  minute jitters.
