Accrington Stanley 1
Cambridge United 0 Stanley extended their lead at the top of the Conference to eight points after a narrow victory over mid-table Cambridge. It was a nervy battle for John Coleman’s men who had to wait until the 78th minute before Ian Craney grabbed the winner. Craney turned home a Paul Mullin cross to bag his ninth goal of the season and extend Stanley’s unbeaten run. Stanley had been given a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 64th minute when substitute Andrew Mangan was fouled in the area. But Peter Cavanagh’s penalty was saved by Cambridge keeper Scott Howie. Cambridge had started the game brightly with left winger Courtney Pitt much to the fore but Stanley deserved the three points. |
