ACCRINGTON STANLEY 2 FOREST GREEN ROVERS 0

ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman certainly enjoyed looking at the  Conference table on Friday night after his side hit top spot.

It might only have been temporary, with Grays winning at Exeter to return to the top less than 24 hours later, but the management and players
could still allow themselves a little smile that the Reds reached pole position.

Friday night football is certainly paying off for them with six points out of their two Friday games and decent crowds - 1506 were there against Green despite the icy conditions.

The first goal was always going to be vital and that came when David Brown broke down the wing on 33 minutes and found Gary Roberts who
lashed the ball home.

Then, two minutes after the interval, Green keeper Ryan Clarke pulled off a superb save to keep out a Michael Welch header but the ball
fell to Paul Mullin who set up Steve Jagielka for his second in two games.

The Brewers had two strong forwards who caused no end of problems with the 14 corners they forced but they couldn't find a way through.

Meanwhile Stanley's Benin international Rommy Boco hit the post with one stinging shot, Clarke denied him following a neat chip and the Brewers keeper also did well to keep out two Ian Craney goalbound efforts.

"Their keeper has produced a couple of world class saves and, on another night, it could have been 7-4," said boss John Coleman.

"They showed a good appetite for the game and forced a lot of corners and, on another night, the goals may have gone in. But we have taken both ours well and it was a good win. Every win is a good one and that is the mentality I am getting into my players as  these could all be vital come the end of the season."
