ACCRINGTON 1 CARDIFF 3
AFTER playing a side made up mainly of triallists in Thursday night's 1-1 draw at UniBond side Radcliffe Borough (when Alex Hey from Tranmere scored the goal) Stanley boss John Coleman stuck with his main squad for the visit of Cardiff. Defender Andy Tretton made his Reds debut while goalkeeper Stuart Jones, from Doncaster Rovers, was out to impress the Stanley manager. "He made a couple of good saves and could do nothing about the goals. We will have another look at him." Cardiff were always on top in the game and they opened the scoring on 12 minutes when Richard Langley tried his luck from 25 yards and saw his effort land perfectly in the top corner of the net. Former Burnley striker Alan Lee came close as did City triallist Phil Mulryne, from Norwich, but it was 2-0 when Willie Boland chipped the ball over Jones and into the net following a neat one -two. The Reds then had a good spell of pressure with Ian Craney almost setting up David Brown in the six yard box but the effort was intercepted while Andy Procter and Mike Flynn both had diving headers cleared off the line. But Stanley found a way through in injury time in the first half when Chris Butler's free kick sailed through a crowd of bodies before it was cleared off the line and Paul Mullin pounced to finish well. However, after the break, Cardiff got on top and could have had more than just the one. Cameron Jones fired passed Jones on 51 minutes but Stanley's defence and some wayward shooting kept the score at 3-1. Coleman introduced Stanley's new midfielder, Anthony Barry, signed this season and triallist Tom Baker from Barnsley and Senegalese defender Klebi as they looked for to earn a Reds contract. "We will have another look at them," said Coleman who has a 14-man squad so far. "I have got an idea of what I want to bring in. Some are current triallists but I also have a couple of other things in the pipeline. I think with another four or five players we won't be far off." |
