Accrington Pals
1st July 1916 is a day which scarred Accrington forever.For on that one fateful day a battalion of men drawn from Accrington and neighbouring towns - known as the Accrington Pals - saw action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.Out of 720 Accrington Pals who took part in the attack, 584 were killed, wounded or missing. |
